Uses:

• Treatment of cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis in patients with AIDS

• Prevention of CMV infection in patients who have received organ transplants

• Works by stopping the growth and spread of the CMV virus in the body

Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

• Stomach pain

• Headache, dizziness

• Low blood cell counts (anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia)

Rare: severe allergic reactions, liver or kidney function changes, seizures
